I work in response to the landscape...both the physical landscape and the landscape of events. My work is site specific and intimately tied to the time and space of its creation.
The work is both ephemeral and resilient. The sculptural pieces are modular and can be reconfigured or evolved into new forms. It is my intent to create an ecology in my art practice.
I choose materials for their flexible, playful, tactile and synergistic qualities. Non-precious and vibrantly colored materials function as a versatile language for drawing and have an immediacy that lends well to improvisation. Childlike and seductive materials, often cast in a subversive role, draw the viewer in for a closer look. There is a slow-hit of realization as the viewer moves in on the work and the initial read shifts or inverts.
Video is a new tool, taken directly from the landscape and infinitely malleable.
